PRP Face and Hair
What is PRP
Platelet rich plasma is also known as PRP. With the first “P” being key to this revolutionary treatment. Platelets circulate in the blood stream they bind together to stop bleeding at the sites of injury and release a variety growth factors by signaling the start of a healing cascade.
As the platelets organize in the treatment area, they release many different growth factors and so attracting stem cells to repair and rejuvenate skin, collagen induction and hair growth.
Physicians began using PRP therapy decades ago to speed up the healing process in damaged joints, wound healing and cardiovascular surgery.
How is it performed?
During treatment a medical assistant draws your own blood (approximately 10-20ml) and spin it in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich plasma. When PRP is injected into the skin, these platelets discharge signaling molecules which can promote new collagen production, elastin fiber synthesis, augment wound healing after microneedling and work on hair follicles to restore normal growth cycles.
Critical growth factors in PRP included:
Platelet derived growth factor (PDGF)- Promotes cell replication, collagen production and metabolism, and blood vessel formation.
Transforming Growth Factor alpha (TGF-a)-Promote keratinocyte (the surface skin cell) proliferation and migration.
Transforming Growth Factor beta( TGF-b) Promote collagen formation, production of new blood vessel formation.
Vascular endothelial Growth factor (VEGF) Promote blood vessel formation.
Epidermal growth Factor (EGF) Promote keratinocyte, collagen and blood vessel formation.

Treatment and Results:
Treatments vary on each patient depending on the treatment area of concern.
As collagen production grows in the skin some effects become evident within weeks, and continue to improve, but others may take months. For hair the process is even slower and requires patience. Remember hair growth is a slow and steady process, about 0.5 inches per month. The process usually takes 6-12 months, Patients are recommended a series of 3-4 treatments for the best results.
PRP for hair restoration:
Hair loss is thinning of hair. It can be devastating for both men and women. According to American Academy of Dermatology, over 80 million men and women in U.S.A have some degree of hair loss or balding, also known as androgenic alopecia.
Mounting scientific evidence suggest that the same signaling molecules found in PRP control hair growth cycles, PRP injection trigger natural existing hair follicle growth cycle and maintaining it by increasing blood supply to the hair follicle, increasing the thickness of the hair shaft and hair count. Is shown to wake up dormant hair follicle in hair loss patients.
Who gets the best results?
PRP for hair loss is best for patients who require stimulation of inactive hair follicle to become active.
You are a great candidate for this procedure if you have experience natural hair thinning, hair loss or from retraction.
